Guardiola defends Schweinsteiger, Bayern ban the Sun and the Mirror

Bayern Munich head coach Pep Guardiola was left feeling aggrieved following the late dismissal of Bastian Schweinsteiger in the 1-1 draw with Manchester United at Old Trafford in the first leg of their Champions League quarter final. The midfielder was shown a second yellow card late in the game after a mistimed challenged on Wayne Rooney, although Schweinsteiger was adamant the England striker had made the most of the challenge – a view shared by Guardiola.

It was a mixed night for Schweinsteiger in Manchester. After Nemanja Vidic’s header had put David Moyes’ men ahead just before the hour mark, the Germany international levelled things up with a cracking finish 10 minutes later, but his night ended early after picking up his second yellow of the night for his challenge on Rooney.
