It was a repeat of the 2000 Emperor’s Cup Final, but the result was no different as Kashima Antlers again got the better of Shimizu S-Pulse.

Antlers had beaten Shimizu 3-2 in the 2001 final over 120 minutes, but this time, they did not need extra time as goals from Fellype Gabriel and Takuya Nozawa gave them a 2-1 win in regulation time.
