We’ve seen penalty shootouts last a fair bit in modern times, but this fixture between Dagenham and Redbridge and Leyton Orient in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy last night will take some beating. The scoreline ended 1-1 in regular time after David Mooney and Sam Williams had scored.
It then went to penalties, where 27 straight penalties were scored ( YES 27, I’m not kidding!) before Ben Chorley of Leyton Orient fluffed his second penalty attempt, thus handing Dagenham and Redbridge a 14-13 win in the shootout at Brisbane Road.
This Orient vs Dagenham Tie was a first round Johnstone’s Paint Trophy clash. For all this effort, Dag and Red’s reward is a second round tie with Southend United!
Phew! Must keep an eye on further Johnstone’s Paint Trophy and other international football scores– can’t afford to miss gems like this one.
