The rules imposed by the DFB for the Olympics made selection difficult- here’s a look at the rules and the players selected

Maximum of 2 players per club
No player that is involved in Champions League /Europa League qualifying
No player that was involved with Euro 2016
No player that just transferred

Clubs also had a veto power
