Young Danish defender Andreas Christensen will return to Chelsea this summer after two seasons on loan with Borussia Monchengladbach. The 20 year old has impressed at Gladbach and while the Foals have made no secret of their desire to make his stay at Stadion IM Borussia Park permanent, Chelsea regard him as an important part of their plans going forward. The news was confirmed by Gladbach sporting director Max Eberl to German paper Kicker.
Christensen was one of three contenders for the 2016 Danish Footballer of the Year, an award that eventually went to Leicester’s Premier League winning goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel.
Christensen is expected to push for a starting role at Chelsea this summer after his father went on record in the Danish media saying his son would not be acceptable with a role on the subs bench.
Gladbach will also have to replace Mohamed Dahoud this summer after the Syria born star recently agreed a 10.3m pound switch to domestic rivals Borussia Dortmund.
