Spanish press reaction to Barcelona win at Old Trafford

Barca registered their first ever win at Old Trafford over Manchester United last night, edging the Red Devils 1-0. Luis Suarez’s header, turned into his own goal by Luke Shaw, was the difference between the two sides at the final whistle. The goal was initially not awarded as the linesman raised his flag, but VAR came to the Blaugrana’s rescue, indicating that Suarez had been onside and that the goal was legitimate.

Here is MD’s reaction to Barca’s win- “Bosses of the Theatre”, a reference to Old Trafford being called the Theatre of Dreams.

Impact to start home campaign this weekend against Columbus Crew

Montreal Impact will play their first home game of the 2019 MLS season this weekend when they welcome Eastern Conference table toppers Columbus Crew to Stade Saputo on Saturday.

This is the first season since 2011 that the club will play all their home games at Stadium Saputo, having previously opted to play at least one fixture at the Olympic Stadium in March. Impact have been on a six game tour to begin the season and have logged some serious air miles on their travels in recent weeks. They’ve picked up eight points from a possible 18, and come into this fixture on the back of a goalless stalemate against DC United in midweek.

Impact were without injured midfielder Ignacio Piatti as well as suspended striker Maximiliano Urruti at the Audi Field. Coach Remi Garde opted to replace the Uruguayan with Anthony Jackson-Hamel, choosing to introduce both Orji Okwonkwo and Harry Novillo from the bench.

Spanish press react to Barcelona comeback against Villarreal

You can never count out a Barcelona side that has Lionel Messi in it, and poor Villarreal discovered it at El Madrigal last night. They lead 4-2 at 90 minutes, but somehow ended up drawing the game 4-4. Another case of points dropped for them after their 3-2 loss to Celta at the weekend after having lead 2-0 at half time. That’s six points they should’ve picked up from these two games- six priceless points that could’ve gone a long way in helping them stay up, but they ended up with just one.

Spanish media praise Benzema for his match winning goal against Huesca

Real Madrid huffed and puffed against lowly Huesca but emerged victors in a five goal fixture thanks to Karim Benzema’s late strike. The Spanish press was full of praise for the French striker, who saved compatriot Zinedine Zidane from the potential embarrassment of dropping points against the league’s bottom club at home. The crowd at the Bernabeu was a disappointing one (<50,000)- Real's second lowest for a league game this season. Zidane later said after the game that it was difficult to motivate his players when there was really nothing to play for- Real Madrid are twelve points behind Barca in the league and have also been knocked out of Europe. Here are the headlines from Marca (Benzema salva los meubles) and AS (Leccion de Benzema). KB goal v Huesca media reaction
