Jose Mourinho’s record of having never managed over four seasons at a club continued after the Portuguese gaffer was sacked by Manchester United today morning. United were beaten 3-1 by Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday evening- the first time the Reds had got the better of their great rivals at home since 2013, and that defeat was apparently the last straw for the United board. Chief executive Ed Woodward cut a frustrated face at Anfield, and so did United legends like Sir Bobby Charlton and Sir Alex Ferguson, who were present for the big game against Jurgen Klopp’s men. Benitez wins Manager of the Month for November 2018
Newcastle United’s Rafa Benitez has been named the Premier League’s Manager of the Month for November 2018. Benitez steered the Magpies to consecutive victories against Watford, Bournemouth and Burnley to take them out of the drop zone. The wins against the Hornets and the Cherries came at St.James Park, while the victory against the Clarets was achieved at Turf Moor.
Benitez is the second Spanish manager to win the MOTM award for this season following Javi Gracia’s success in August 2018. It is the 7th time he’s won this award during his managerial career. Continue reading
Sheff Utd 1-2 West Brom | Baggies leapfrog Blades in league table
Goals from Gareth Barry and Kieran Gibbs helped West Bromwich Albion claim a 2-1 win over Sheffield United in this Friday night Championship clash at Bramall Lane. The 23,400 strong crowd saw the home side take the lead through David McGoldrick’s 12th minute effort but Harvey Barnes, on loan at Albion from Leicester, set up two goals to allow the Baggies to come from behind. The win also saw Darren Moore’s side leapfrog the Blades in the league standings- WBA are now third in the table with 39 points from 22 games, just three points behind Leeds, who’ll play struggling Bolton over the weekend.
